What you need to know
Our team season runs August through May and includes competitions, conventions, and performances. Dancers interested in joining the team are evaluated during summer training classes, followed by team placements announced in late July before choreography camp.
- Dancers interested in being considered for the Ovation Competition Team must complete 16 hours of technical dance training during the summer session.
- While 16 hours is the minimum requirement, dancers who train more consistently tend to experience the greatest growth and placement opportunities.
- Training may include Ovation classes, approved dance camps, or summer intensives.
- If training outside Ovation, instructors must verify attendance hours.
Team placement is determined through evaluation during summer training classes.
Throughout the summer session, instructors observe dancers to evaluate:
• technical progress
• work ethic and class participation
• ability to learn choreography
• teamwork and positive attitude
Team placements are announced in late July, prior to our Team Choreography Camp: August 3-6.
Team spots are limited and placement is not guaranteed.
When determining team placement, instructors consider:
• strong technique and effort in class
• ability to quickly learn choreography
• commitment to improvement
• positive teamwork and attitude
• readiness for additional training and performance opportunities
Why Dancers Love Being on Team
Team dancers receive focused training designed to strengthen technique, performance quality, and stage presence. Our program challenges dancers to grow while continuing to build a strong technical foundation.
Team members have the opportunity to perform at competitions, conventions, and local events throughout the season. These experiences help dancers gain confidence, stage experience, and a deeper love for performing.
Being part of a team at Ovation is about more than just dance. Dancers build friendships, learn teamwork and commitment, and grow in confidence both inside and outside the studio.
